Flac does indeed less cpu than mp3. It depends on the implementation, and the sheer size of flac may affect battery life especially on HDD players.

Then it mostly depends on how well integrated the decoder is? I have read that the one that Fuze and Clip+ use apparently is not that effective and that might explain why the guy at the Sansa forums got worse results for FLAC than LAME MP3 when he ran his tests. So in the case of Sansa DAP:s and FLAC, Rockbox is an improvement.
SanDisk have changed the official forums, so any links there do not work. Here is a new link to where a guy tests different formats.
This might however not be interesting for someone with a D2+ as the FLAC decoder is not as inefficient as the one that is used in the original Sansa firmware...
