Bands that have jumped the shark...

okay guys....

 

what are some bands who's material has taken a turn for the worse? 

aka, jumped the shark.

 

obviously, these would be bands or artists that are currently producing music.

 

and, in your opinion, what was their last good record?

 

i'll start us off...

 

 

(edit:  as a side note, how many bad records does a band have to produce before you write them off???  how many before you know for sure they've jumped the shark?)

(also:  what does it take to give one of these bands/artists a second chance?)

Flaming Lips

Soft Bulletin was phenomenal.  Yoshimi was great.  At War was okay... Embryonic is okay...

Jefferson Airplane, AKA Jefferson Starship, AKA Starship, AKA Jefferson Starship - The Next Generation. They were really good as Jefferson Airplane, not so much when they started changing their name (and changing the band members, save Paul Kantner). And yes, they are still active.

 

Years active: 1974–1984, 1992–present; As of 2010 Jefferson Starship (current name) continues to tour, and they released an album in 2008

i really gotta agree on this one.  soft bulletin is a masterpiece.

embryonic is almost unlistenable.

how did they get from A to B???

Wilco has lost the plot completely.

sorry, Nels Cline fans.  his skronky guitar work is just awful to my ears...

and Tweedy's songwriting has become a yawn-fest.

Since im into metal....sonic syndicate jumped the shark. 

 

Their last good album was, "Love and other disasters" their last one is horrible...

While I also agree, I think it's for the best that they created embryonic.  The Lips are the type of band that really needs to experiment and stretch out.  I think albums such as this will help them create even better albums in the future.

I absolutely love Van Halen but I feel that they jumped the shark right around the end of Hagar era/first DLR comback.  Started facepalming when Cherone stuff came out. Can't say I'm THAT excited for the new stuff that is supposed to be out in 2011, although DLR is back and everything...

for me, this band created three really good albums, then started swimming through the quagmire we call "adult" rock.
