I owned a previous version and this system is pretty convenient since it allows charging and output to your favorite amp at the same time. Other docks are not so flexible.
It is not the equivalent in audio quality to the iPad's camera kit usb connection - based on what I have read, but please correct me if I am wrong. I have both. Also, you cannot adjust line out volume using the iPod's volume control - something the ad doesn't specify and I had to research on the internet.
So this basically bypasses the iPod amp? Interesting, does it work with the iPhone 4? And how do i get this if i live in Singapore?
Try the SendStation website: http://www.sendstation.com/

It is technically cleaner, but the difference in sound quality is not that noticeable. IMO, an internal iPod DAC bypass would have been much more beneficial. I've had mine for about a month, and aside from this, it doesn't seem to keep a full 100% connection. I have to constantly wiggle the adapter to get sound from both channels and/or keep the USB charge going.

Agree on the DAC bypass! Which is one of the reasons I ended up buying a Peachtree iDecco.
But there are few devices that can do this - the Wadia, iDecco, Onkyo ND-S1, and the upcoming Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm are the only ones I'm aware of. The AlgoRhythm is the only one that is portable.
I don't totally understand why this is an expensive thing to accomplish, but I think there are some proprietary chips that need to be obtained through Apple, and who knows what kind of licensing agreements. I'm guessing that the music industry is likely very nervous about people being able to pull straight digital out of an iPod, and makes Apple jump through all sorts of hoops to keep people from capturing that stream as a means of bypassing DRM.
But back on topic- even if you don't get a greatly improved signal out of the PocketDock, it's still a great way to feed a portable headphone amp, rather than having to crank up the iPod's internal amp, and having to deal with two volume controls.
Re: your connection issue - I don't own this model, but I've previously owned 2 other PocketDocks, and they worked flawlessly. Sounds like you might have a lemon; I'd contact Sendstation and see what they think.
Cheers...
The SendStation is an analog output only Device. It will not output a digital signal via USB as the new Camera Connection Kit will with the new Gen iPhone and iPad. The Sendstation works with all Generation iPhones/iPods and the new iPad to output analog audio via the 3.5mm female jack.
No you can not adjust the volume with a Sendstation dock as it is a true line out signal. This is the benefit of the pieces as it bypass the crap headphone amp in the device.

Yes it is a licensing and digital rights issue. Docks and LOD cables are the way to go for analog output. I hope to crack open a camera kit this wknd to see what makes it tick how it gets a digital signal.
For home use I use the Denon ASD-51W
It is so much more versatile than the Wadia. You can connect it to a home network and it is IP addressable. Giving you a web based control and you can then not only stream the ipod audio but also music files on the your computer or server, Internet Radio and other stuff.
Check out the manual here
We sell both the Wadia($349) and the Denon($299)

Did I miss a page ? I know the iPad USB Camera adapter will feed an external DAC but will it work with an iPhone4 /iPodTouch?
The iPad USB Camera adapter will only work with the iPad and latest generation iPhone. Not with anything else from what I understand.
Not all USB dacs will work with the iPad USB Camera adapter as well. Also if your USB dac only offers 16bit/44.1kHz resolution then the Denon will allow higher resolution via the coax output. Or for those that dont own a USB Dac this offers a digital output option from there iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
