I purchased and paid for a 20 series chassis on eBay on August 5. According to the order details, the estimated delivery was between August 10 and today, August 17.

A few hours ago, I received some emails notifying me that the product had shipped today, August 17. Why do I get the feeling that the chassis was not created until after I won and paid for it? There was no such indication on the product's eBay page.

Hopefully the chassis is in tip-top shape when it arrives. I'm crossing my fingers.

You didn’t have experience with the Par-Metal Company, only an ebay vendor/reseller. Your feedback should directed at them.

Nope. The seller is johnango, which refers to John Ngo, the owner of Par Metal.

His ebay store can be found at http://stores.ebay.com/antekinc.

The companies called Antek inc not Par Metal, maybe the same guy but let’s not get companies mixed.

* Quoted from the E-Bay ad:
The estimated delivery time is based on the seller's handling time, the shipping service selected, and when the seller receives cleared payment. Sellers are not responsible for shipping service transit times. Transit times may vary, particularly during peak periods.
* Quoted from the E-Bay ad:
Will usually ship within 2 business days of receiving cleared payment.

The optimum word is "usually" and "estimated". The chassis shipped on the 8 business day. Not that terrible. Your complaint is premature and without merit.

I am no stranger to eBay.

The order detail says this concerning shipping: "Estimated delivery: August 10 - August 17, 2010."

Yes, I understand it is an estimate and that there is no guarantee that it would ship within two business days, but this is by far the longest it has taken for an eBay item to ship in my experience.

Look at the other negative feedback in this thread, get a grip. Honestly you should never have posted your trivial gripe here. It’s unwarranted and unfair feedback.

I thought this thread was more about QUALITY than ship dates, but that's just me.

Perhaps we can limit to just build quality observations, that are on topic?

I'll also add one for Pars Metal - their other operation, Antekinc.com has great prices on torroids, and has always delivered what they say when they say. Again, you get exactly what you pay for, but if you want a reasonable part at a great price, they deliver. They do NOT offer custom torroids.

Point is that they so some things really well, and volume just makes the bad things really stick out. Were we to hear all the good things, the bad experiences would be <1%

One of lsaudio's complaints was shipping delays, so I thought my complaint was on topic. However, if you do want to limit this thread strictly to build quality problems, then that's fine.

Late to post, but I've had decent results with Par-Metal. There have been some mis-haps but they were willing to correct the problems. Their prices are low enough that I can't complain, and when they get the order right, the quality is very good for my application, where the finish quality and accuracy of the dimensions are key.

However, sometimes I need better lead times, or more options as far as finish and color, so does anyone have any suggestions for alternate vendors at the next price level. Of the places I've researched, there is a huge price gap, say 5X Par-Metal's price. I generally need small (5 x 1.25") anodized aluminum front panels with silkscreen, and 18 Ga zinc-plated steel chassis pieces, with holes in the range of 1/8" to 2".

Any suggestions?

My last order with PAR metals was quite a pain. I could never get John on the phone, so I had to have a very long email discussion lasting over a week. When I finally did get him on the phone, I specifically mentioned I didn't want rackmount ears or handles and wanted to just screw the frontplate on. Sure enough, when my enclosure arrives a month later than originally estimated, no threaded holes on the back of the faceplate so I had to just go ghetto style and hold a nut in place while screwing in the front panel. The side vents were not done entirely to the cad files I sent them, but I was tired of dealing with them so I didn't bother complaining.

I'll probably still buy from them because their price for a custom machined chassis can't be beat. Even if some minor modifications do need to be made.

I'm looking forward to getting a couple more chassis from them this week, and as I'm sure it was said many times before - CALL THEM, don't email.
