No Sound in A5 speakers with RCA cable from uDAC

Hi there. I just got my brand new Audioengine A5 speakers and am not getting any sound when i connect the NuForce uDAC to it through RCA cables. I used to get proper sound in my A2 speakers with the same setup. My OS is windows 7-32bit.

Sound comes only when i plug in the aux input from my mp3 player and laptop headphone/speaker jack.

 

I cant seem to find the problem here, or could it be that my speakers are bad? :(

I will contact my dealer once i confirm that there is a genuine issue with the speakers itself.

Please give me suggestions regarding this. I am heart broken.

Try to isolate the problem. Use the uDAC seperately without your speakers and see if they work. Then, test your speakers seperately as well. If the problem lies with the uDAC and no sound is coming through, it could be as simple as switching to the correct output device in the sound manager. If it's your speakers, then it might be a bit tricky.

The A5 has two inputs, both are 1/8th inch mini-jacks not RCA, unlike the A2 which does have RCA inputs. The A5 only has RCA line-outs. The accessories provided includes an RCA to mini cable so you can take the RCA analog outs from your DAC and connect them to the mini jack input.

I am a newbie in audio. Plz dont mind my stupid questions.

1) So what is the purpose of the RED and WHIT RCA line out sockets behind the left A5 speaker?

 

2) What you are telling me is, that if i connect my two RCA cables to the udac and the other end of both the cables to the line out ports behind the A5, i wont get any sound? Then how come i used to get sound when i connected them to the A2  RCA ports?

 

3) A replacement is on its way tomorrow. What should i do? :(

1) The red and white RCA line out is to route the signal fed into the A5 into a different device. Not sure why you would need it.

 

2) You must connect the correct audio cables to the line in ports on your A5 to hear sound. The reason your A2 worked with RCA is (I'm guessing) the RCA jacks were line in.

 

3) Try using the RCA to 1/8" adapter included. Connect the RCA part to your uDAC RCA out and the 1/8" part into the line in on your A5. You can also connect the 1/8" output of the uDAC straight into the line in on the A5 (using a regular 1/8" to 1/8" cable). But I believe (guessing again) the RCA output of the uDAC sounds better.

No need to apologise nobody starts out as a knowledgeable in any field.

 

The red and white RCA Line-out is an output this allows you to send the audio signal that you have input to the sepakers to another device such as an amplifier or a cassette recorder. So for instance you can monitor sound from your computer via the speakers and record it at the same time but it is not necessary for playback through the speakers. It is there as a convenience for you.

Well, like u said i did try with the provided RCA to minijack adapter and hooked it up behind the audio in port from the uDAC. There Is SOUND : )

So that concludes that my speakers are fine???
