I can see where you are coming from about how lyrics should go first. But to me when I listen to these people rap and their lyrics are great, but their beat is so so it just seems like they are talking very quickly. The thing I like about Kanye is his flow is good, and it's just very pleasing to listen to. Because I guess i just like to listen to music and not really analyze what he is saying. I mean, if his lyrics were completely stupid like some of Lil Wayne's or other rappers than I would reconsider listening to him. But his lyrics are better than people who have the same level as beat of him. Just my opinion, sometimes when I do get analytical I like to listen to Lupe rip it up

He released a new song. It's got a cool guest list, notably Bon Iver!

I think it's a pretty cool song. Nicki Minaj's verse is ridiculous lol.

Hey, different strokes for different folks :)
Of course I also listen to classical, acoustic guitar, metal, rock, alternative, hip hop, pop, electronic, and RnB and for me, each genre serves it's place when I'm in a specific mood. Sure some genres get more use than others but I love em all. (I don't really mean anything by that just wanted to share :))
have you heard College Dropout? That album was really good

I think that at least some of his songs (although I admit - I did not hear many of his) really are not the music and just pretend to be. I do not want to talk again about some specific examples of real crap like Tinchy Stryder* but in my opinion a lot of this stuff just pretends to be music. I do not want to offend anyone's music tastes but since I started to listen to rap I realised that it is not type of music that everyone would like to listen to. It is quite obvious that people have different tastes but it is different with rap - you just have to 'feel' this music. So although I have been a huge fan of rap I could understand that many people dislikes this genre especially when they 'know' rap only from what they hear in the radio or tv. Now when we have those 'amazing' artists such as Tinchy Stryder I ask myself how is that possible that people actually enjoy listening to this crap. It is just iritating as hell and does not have much common with what I call a real rap. Kanye is not far from that... in his few songs I heard. This is what I have to make clrea - I have not heard much of his work and I guess I would appreciate his music more if listened to College Dropout suggested by few guys above.
*- Though Kanye does not mean to me much more than Stryder (dont listen to neither of them) I can see that camparisons with Tinchy Stryder might be a little bit insulting.;)

Hey, hey. I have a song by Tinchy Stryder and it's some pretty catchy pop.

Maybe there's little artistic merit, but sometimes it really doesn't matter.

Imma let you finish this thread, but the 4chan 'Imma let you finish' thread was the best Kanye West meme of all time.

You make a very good point. The problem is that most people hear his music on the radio and those songs are not always the best lyrically. I have not really heard of tynchy strider much other than his song number one. It really depends on your taste, and what you think rap is. People enjoy listening to Tynchy Strider mainly because his beats are catchy and he says catchy words. Kind of like the Black Eyed Peas and how "I gotta Feeling" was number one on every chart for two months. The song was not really good, it just had a simple, yet catchy beat, and simple yet catchy lyrics. The thing about songs with simple yet catchy lyrics or beats is that after two months or a year they get boring. On another subject, Kanye West is more hip hop, or at least that is what i have always considered him. The main thing is that some people love his music, and some people think it is crap. I don't like the the rolling stones, or the beatles (except for a couple songs) but i still think they produce good music. Some people don't like their music so they think it is crap which annoys me. College Dropout was a totally different album for hip hop listeners since it didn't talk too much about slapping girls butts, and how much money they have. I always thought it was a great album, but everybody has different opinions.

@sonace
Great picture :)
@andtobis
Yea same here, I never really listen to the hip hop/rap that talked about degrading women, selling drugs, or getting money, that just didn't do it for me. I only listened to that kind of music in the car where I'm just listening to the beat and flow of words rather than the lyrics itself. I never could listen to hip hop in the car because my concentration isn't on the music.
It's completely opposite at home :)
And the fact that the other hip hop music isn't really recorded all that well; bloated bass and the lack of good quality doesn't go all that well with "good" gear.
