HELP THE NOOB and maybe some day the noob can help someone else!

I've been looking for my first foray into the word of higher quality audio. After much agony I have decided on Shure SRH440 headphones to listen to orchestra, classical, hip-hop, and rap.

My setup will look something like this:

iPod Classic 160GB--->LOD--->amp--->SRH440

Before anyone comments on how an amp isn't necessary, it is for me. The 3.5mm headphone jack is broken on my iPod. It would be cheaper to buy a $200 amp than a new DAP.

I'm basically looking for a amp in the are of $100.

The amps I've seen are:

  • iBasso T3: A little out of my price range, but they get great reception.
  • Linerossa W1: Skylab put them in the same class as the T3, but DFKT told me that they are TERRIBLE as an amp.
  • CMoy: I really don't want these. I know that the quality is better than the rest, but I can't bring myself to carry around an Altoid tin as a case and my dad will probably refuse to let me buy them simply because of the case.
  • Total Airhead/Bithead

EDIT: The T3 actually has some of the cheapest shipping of the lot. Well, to Saudi Arabia at least.

Any other suggestions are welcome. Please don't recommend me any DIY.

bump! :(

If you could raise your price range a bit, a used  iBasso D2 or D3 would serve you well.  They show up fairly often on the "Amplifiers for Sale" thread.

get an Ibasso. The are very well match with the shures IMO.

The iBasso T3 is actually over my price range, but I think I can still manage. The D2 and D3 are WAYY out my range, so no chance.

Would the nuForce Icon give me horrible quality, because the thing (including shipping) is $80 cheaper than the T3.

EDIT: Actually $20 cheaper. I guess I'm going to get the T3 then.

Gary from www.electric-avenues.com sells the PA2V2 and is a great well built very portable amp for 60$. I use it and also a Corda 3Move from Meier Audio as my home and travel amp. Both are excellent products and both builders offer great support. Jan's is out of your expense range but may be a future investment to look into. It is a tough decision when you cannot do a test drive. I am very happy with both my amps driving my Sennheiser 428's and 595's. I made my decisions exclusively from pouring over this site. Now I am saving to further expand my can collection. Also look into getting yourself a good interconnect cable. One is a must when pairing up your cans with a good amp.

I'd have to bid on the PA2V2... In your opinion would the iBasso T3 pair well with the SRH440? I'm gonna be using a LOD from an iPod. Any recommendations on a good LOD bellow $15?

You can get cmoys in nice cases as well.

Is this seller trusted? Do I have to solder the opamps myself or will he do them for me? What configuration do you recommend for the srh440? What's a "morphing" cmoy?

I think I get it. You can change the opamp very easily by simply removing. That is why it's called morph, because you can put anyone you want. I think I'll get this one then along with an SRH440.

I don't know much about the seller.  It's just the first one I thought of since I just bought a cmoy kit from the same guy the other day.  If you search around you can probably find other sellers with similar products.  I don't mean to endorse that particular model, I don't know much about it.  I was just pointing out that cmoys in nice cases do exist.

Why do you recommend the T3?

T3 is a very nice portable ibasso amp. If you're looking for a cheap ibasso line up, this one should be it. Sound sig is almost similar to its big brother D4, of course we're just talking about the amp section.
