Speakers for bedroom rig (max 400 euro) audioengine a5 m-audio bx8a deluxe or other

Hi everyone,

I am constructing a new bedroom rig around the ipod nano, onkyo media transport and probbably the little dot dac_i or the dacmagic.

I am not yet sure about the speakers though. A friend of mine recently went to a very big music store where he listened to a lot of studio monitors and considering bang for the buck he choose the m-audio bx8a deluxe. I think i would like these as well.

Before he told me this i was all set on the audioengine a5, but i can get the m-audios new for 35 euros cheaper then the a5s new.

Now I am torn because i dont hve a real possibility to test either.

If I look at the technical specs then the bx8a should be the obvious choice. My friend has heard them but not the audioengines.

I wonder if anyone has demoed them both?

Thanks in advance

Greetings, Anouk,

BX5 and BX8 are fantastic. The only thing I dont like is that you never get an incredible deal on those AFAIK. But they arent too pricey to begin with,

Hi there,

I can get them at thomann.de for 265 euro including shipping from Germany to the netherlands. This is for the two units.

The recommended price by m-audio is higher but I know street prices are lower.

This is lower then what i would have to pay for the audioengines here in the netherlands but i am not sure if it is a good deal for the m-audios.

I thought the BX5's are slightly smaller than the A5. Both BX5 and BX8 sound great IMO, and if you can get then at a good price, go for it.
