Audinst HUD-mx1 Amp/Dac + HD580 / HD600? - Page 2

Here's someone else with an Audinst and a HD650:

The verdict seems to be that the Audinst's amp is good enough to drive the HD600/650 well. Quote: "The amp was surprisingly decent, giving my HD 650's more than the necessary amount of juice to remove the veil in the mids." But it is the Audinst's DAC that truly amazes. Hooking it up to a powerful dedicated amp like the Schiit Asgard revealed its true potential.

I've got the Audinst and HD650.  I don't use them together anymore (vinyl and tubes now) but I can say that it does a fine job.  Occasionally I still use it as a DAC to my Crack Speedball.

I've also used 600 ohm DT990's with the Audinst acceptably.

I just received an Audinst HUD-mx1 that I ordered on Sunday and received in New York from Korea on Thursday. Connected to 600 ohm HD540 Reference headphones, my comfortable listening level is between 8 & 10 pm, only 2-4 notches up from Off. That's without changing the internal jumpers, which supposedly are set for headphones of <300 ohms. Thus, there's plenty of headroom for those who listen louder. You probably will not need to change the jumpers with 600 ohm headphones unless you have significant hearing loss. Setup was simple in Windows 7, and I have experienced no hum, static or clicks.
