I'll consider em...it seems from the few reviews I can find on them that the bass is lacking though.

The Panasonic HJE900 have a 'u shaped frequency response', the highs can be harsh at higher volumes, with the lows being overpowering at times, and the mids recessed a bit. At lower volumes everything balances out nicely and there is great extension and detail throughout the range. Flat signatures sound better at higher volumes. At lower volumes, a flat signature will sound like its rolling off the lows and highs (actually they are there, but inaudible). To avoid that you have to listen at higher volumes, or EQ to adjust the response to one acceptable at a lower volume.

I think of the RE0 in the same class as the Hippo VB... the best of the under $100 crowd. I think the HJE900 is a top tier IEM.

The first link is Joker comparing and contrasting the HJE900 to two more expensive IEMs (including the reviewers favorite). The second is by DKFT (who listens at really low volume, as a rule.) Both reviewers have heard many IEMs, cheap to expensive.

Then there is this thread... where the OP called the HJE900 weird, and the RE0 wonderful.

After burn, the bass honestly isn't lacking, well for me anyways. The mc5s really convey the music well.

I've looked at those threads as well; it looks like a good IEM but I just don't really know what I prefer... I can always sell them if they don't work for me I suppose.

I agree. It's very comparable to my SR80s (with bowls), which might help to give some people a point of reference. The MC5s just plain sound good. I think as more people get a chance to hear them they'll be among the top sub-$100 IEM recommendations.

Yeah, coming from the S4s, the MC5s seem like another listening experience. The music plays out really well and everything seems to be in balance.

Hmm okay. So I guess I'm looking at the RE-0 (or ZERO) / MC5. I'll also be on the lookout for good deals of some of the more expensive IEMs mentioned too.

Anybody else?

im my honest opinion you shouldnt be looking anywhere else but the M2, the eterna and the silver bullet

I will admit ive never used the Brainwaves m2, but it seems to be tossed around a lot as one of the best

The Eterna rev2 does a fantastic job of immersion, that means depth in audio field forward.  Meaning you can really get a nice sense of layers going on in front of you, but its soundstage is equally wide and tall, but not extending beyond your head.  It also has some comfort issues with the cable.  Nobody wears them behind your ears and thats the only way to make sure the wire doesnt stick to your cheeks.  You can use it normally, but its on an odd angle and again the wires are annoying because they lay over your cheek down to your chin.  The sound is nicely, almost perfectly colored, not too much and not lacking.  Great for all types of genres and believe it or not, its the best earbud ive EVER used for my superman OST which is all classical.  Not one set of earbuds ive ever owned, included 400$+ buds handled it that well, its due to the immersion, its just awesome. Great bass, not too much but enough to make you happy.

NOTE TO FISCHER AUDIO!  PLEASE REVAMP THE ETERNA AGAIN AND GIVE IT A SILVER BULLET HOUSING!  That design is just terrible on the eterna.  Makes many people very sad because its easily a top 5 contender for the best bang for your buck ever

The Silver Bullet is the opposite of the Eterna for staging.  It is wide sounding, very much so over the eterna but doesnt at all immerse you. It seems less colored in sound as well.  For sure aimed to be a bit more on the balanced side.  Basically everything is the same in terms of sheer awesomeness from the eterna.  Its like its twin brother with a few different qualities.

Its an apples and oranges type thing, you cant go wrong with any of them.

I metioned the M2 in my first post...I already own them (well my brother does) and I'd prefer something less warm-sounding and bass-centric, as well as a stronger treble (in my opinion). The Eterna certainly sounds interesting but I'm not sure if it'll be overpowering with its bass for my tastes. I've also heard the v2 loses some appeal versus the v1 so I'm not sure... THe Silver Bullet is appealing for its soundstage but I'm not sure how I'll like the sound sig...guess there's only one way to find out. Thanks for the reply :)

The original eterna has a slightly thicker bass experience, but its not significantly different from the rev2.

the rev2 is just noticeably more airy in the bass, everything else is identical IMO.  The bass experience is fantastic, its not overwhelming at all if you ask me

Well if the fit of the v2 is anything like the v1 I have there's nothing wrong with it imo. I don't have any issues with how it is built either. Although I do like them they are a bit slow in complex passages but that probably has something to do with the driver that they are using and the fact that it is a budget one as well but it is implemented quite well.

the v2 is physically identical to the original.  I dont wear mine behind my ears and try to wear them like normal style buds and with that comes the wires strung over your cheek, its annoying but due to the sheer amazing sound coming at me, i really dont notice it or care THAT much

im interested in owning and testing the Silver Bullet, I've owned the Rev1 for a while, decided to sell that and a few months later ( recently ) purchased the rev2 eterna.  Its been my bud of choice for a long long time and as I said I got to listening to the Silver Bullet and would like to own a pair for myself, and would like to give my ears a different taste of sound for a while ;)

Ive got my eterna up for sale here on headfi if you or anyone else is interested in buying or trading for a SB :)
