You know about the Shure wire problems prior to 2008. I purchased this pair of SE310 in excellent condition last spring and have used it daily since. Although not abused, the wires eventually gave way. There is also some wear on the rubber part of the left earphone. As you can tell, about 1/4 of the PVC on the wires is still holding them together, and the copper wiring appears undamaged. I've actually been using the earphones with gauze tape for the past half year, and they work perfectly, with no sonic degradation --in other words, the drivers are fine.
I can either sell these as they are (guaranteed working, of course), no box but with 2 pairs of unused olive tips, for $59 obo shipped anywhere --or, I can use a heatgun to patch them up with a layer of rubber tubing. Keep in mind that the patch would add bulk and increase stiffness. Ideally, someone with soldering skills and a tight budget can simply rewire these.
Since I've upgraded, I no longer have need for the SE310. If you have something interesting to trade, please send me an offer. I'm looking for an inexpensive but decent portable amp, a CPU heatsink fan cooler for an AM3 chip, a decent graphics card like the 9800/8800GT, etc.
