Well I really cant place my finger on it but does the new classic sound better than the old one? Music just seems more depth...This is using the same headphones BTW.

short terms: compact, loud, cheap ultraportables. detailed terms: AKG in the house ( fun, smooth, bassy, bright & clear presentation ) cool for mainstream song including R&B, but not...

Sennheiser HD-598s are the most comfortable headphones I've had the opportunity to use. I recommend these wholeheartedly for any first-time hi-fi buyer because of their excellent soundstage and...

Beats out the Bose Triport, the HD 202 and HD 435s, the AT M35 and AT M50. Just try it and see. Extremely comfortable (I wear mine while commuting and studying, for about 5+ hours a day). Bought...

Really funny how I was thinking differently. Possible it was in my head but music seemed to sound better. I dont have very good IEM though.
God its a love hate for me with apple. On one hand I hate how I really had no other choices (compition is kind of gone in most capacities but pretty much nonexistant in the 100+gb) yet love having a device that I can store all my music.
I mis my rio carbon lol.
EDIT: Wait, the 80gb classic has the cirrus logic DAC as well.

5G and 5.5G has wolfson 6G is cirrus
yeah there where some who liked the cirrus more and it was noted that the hp out was better than the one on the 5G. it was the like out where the 5G was regarded as being clearly superior to the cirrus ones.
but as with everything personal preference and synergy can make all the difference

Rockboxed iPod 5.5g with a 240gb HDD for the win. I'm in the same boat as you currently, I love having all my music on one device but I can't stand the stock firmware on the iPod.
It's the only answer I could find. The 7th gen may or may not be better than the 5.5 generation iPods, but there's still only one choice for me.
