RS 220 $599.99 ($125 rc)

HD 700 $999 ($125 rc)

Anywho..

Thanks.  Still not bad, though.  I live in Virginia, so I have to pay sales tax.  However, it's nice to see that e-tailers are finding ways to work around the fixed prices for Sennheiser gear that Sennheiser would like to keep control of.

Is the HiFiMan - HE-300 an open or closed headphone?

I believe the HE-300 is open. You can always check Hifiman's website to make sure though.

Correct.  Also, the HE-300 can use the same ear pads and cables as the other models.  However, from experience, I'd pass on the HE-300 and go to the HE-400.  The HE-300 is a dynamic driver-based headphone and not utilizing the ortho technology that the rest of the headphones in the lineup utilize.

If you get the HE-300,  you will always wonder how good the HE-400 might be.  Do go for at least the HE-400 to at least curb your upgrade desires off for possibly a bit longer.

I listen mostly to classic rock and heavy metal, price is not a issue at this moment.

Post your question there, this is a deal thread. You will get a wide variety of recommendations and people that will help you. Just from what you are asking though, It will be tough to recommend anything closed because typically closed headphones have V shaped sound sigs, meaning recessed mids. People in that thread should have more to add, and probably some headphones to recommend. Only warm sounding closed headphone that is fit for a budget that I can think of is Shure SRH-840. Good Luck
