Newbie help: seeking iPod that sounds like a Naim Hifi!

Thread Starter

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I'm asking this in the wrong section.

I have a mid-range Naim hifi at home and I can listen to music for hours without getting bored, but whenever I listen to music on the go I get bored very quickly. Is it possible to get a portable music system for listening by the pool that keeps your attention?

Along the way in my quest I bought a pair of Westone UM-2 earphones. Paired with my iPhone 3G they don't sound that great - too much midrange. But paired with an old Sony Ericsson W850i phone that has a 5-band graphic EQ I can make them sound not too bad, but still not exciting!

I've recently tried a pair of Shure SE535's but didn't find them that much better to my ears to the Westone's so this led me to think maybe I need a portable headphone amp?

Any suggestions much appreciated! :-)

Steve.

ps. Source files are 320kbps encoded mp3 files or Apple Lossless.

Maybe you just haven't go the pairing of IEM and DAP  right.

I like the pairing of the Sony walkmans to the RE0 & RE-ZERO because the walkman "clearbass" can  bring out the bass of the RE --- and the detail and clarity of these IEMs then complete the sound.

Does your w850 have clearbass in the eq  or just the 5 band graphic ?

You could pick up some RE0s and try them. Head-Direct have a 30 day refund policy.

This is the setup i like.

A look around the site should give you an idea of what others are using.
