Bright DAC/AMP to max out M50s, up to 2k

i really love and prefer the sound of the m50 to the pricier models, so i am not changing and i am willing to max out the performance of the M50

 

i just want more brighness, openness, transient response, pace and less bass quantity

 

on my list so far (by posts)

 

DAC1 bright but unmusical

Nuforce HDP

Chordette Toucan 

 

 

what else is bright fast open AND musical ?

 

(higher priced DAC will be used for my active monitors)

IMO there is no such thing. But if you're looking for brightness, I agree with the others on the Benchmark. Best to try to match up components to make your system sound the way you want. Rather than trying to find one component that can do it all.

From Stereophile's measurements section on the DAC1
With both sample rates, the Benchmark's audioband response is flat, with an insignificant –0.2dB droop evident at 20kHz

 

Your best bet in all seriousness is to get an equalizer, then you can make fine adjustments to get the sound exactly the way you want.
