WD 40 on rusted RCA plugs?

Dear all, I have a rusted RCA plug that I would like to use. Since I don't do much DIYing, I don't have different sprays and don't want to spent money to purchase a can just to clean a single plug. I do have a can of WD-40, some say that it sucks out the moisture (which is good) but forms a layer of insulation (bad), WD-40 official website says that "2. DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because WD-40 displaces moisture, it quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits.", making it suitable for electronic contacts? I don't know what to do. Any cheap home solution? Alcohol?

Thanks a dozen, enclosed is a photo of the plug.

I would suggest cleaning them with some fine grit sand paper or steel wool to get the tarnish off.  I wouldn't bother oiling them...

I would go for some metal polish, steel wool seems a bit rough.

Would "3M CHROME AND METAL POLISH" work? I got those and just wanna be sure. Thanks.

It would do less harm than wire wool. I helped a mate clean up his hifi a while back. he had not touched it in years and the dust and crud was nasty. Nothing had quite oxidised as in your photo, but all the plugs came up nice and shiny with some brasso.

I doubt you're going to polish off rust on metal.  All steel wool will do is clean then up...they are metal.

You can use very fine great sandpaper also, it will polish them up brand new.

Actual metal polish has a slight coarseness to it, like T-Cut on paint. I would start with the gentler option, you cannot go back.

I would disconnect all the cables and remove the back plastic cover, then I would use 0000 steel wool.
