I'll take SOLD shipped within the US only. I paid $165 for it new (custom panels were extra).

The amp is in great condition and isn't used anymore. I used to keep it in my pocket with my iPod and as a result, my LODs kept shorting out from being in the position they were in, squeezed tightly in my pocket. After going through ~4 LODs at $50+ a pop, I've decided to stop replacing them and just sell the amp. It's in great condition and comes with power adapter/charger.

Hello,

Does it have socketed opamps/buffers ?

Where exactly did the shorts occur when held in a pocket?

Thanks!

I haven't the slightest idea. I have little knowledge of headphone amps and this is the only amp I've ever owned. After a little searching, I found this was one of the popular choices for the price, so I chose it. As far as I know, it's just a basic Mini3. The only options I added to it were the custom panels. Here's more technical details that should answer your question better.

As for the short, it always occurred at the dock connector. An iPod Classic rubberbanded to a Mini3 would mean the LOD would be bent directly in half... and when I constantly had it in my pocket, I believe walking/bending (I often used it at work) put more pressure on the cable, so I couldn't keep an LOD for anymore than a month. I only used the amp for a few months before giving up.

As far as I know and see, opamps are not socketed, but soldered directly on the board.  This is the hardest operation to perform when building this thing.

Sorry. No clue.

ebay's solder_monkey enlightened me on the topic of rolling op-amps in the very specific context of the mini3:

"I won't say it isn't possible but it is rather pointless. The Mini3 is basically purpose built around the ad8397 which provides the highest current output I am aware of in an amp like this. The extended run time version offers longer run time but a reduced current output. You could certainly change a few values and use other soic8 opamps or maybe even add sockets to roll dip8's. You're not going to approach the current/rail to rail output of the 8397 though."

Thought I'd share this so that this newbie question has a logged answer in these forums,

Peace.
