I'll be getting this in 1-2 weeks, so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

It is the 4th Sony MiniDisc Player, and is extremely sexy...I'll post more on it later when I get it...

I can't wait

4 hours playback on Nickel-Hydride rechargeable cell
WOW, that's really bad!!...I guess I've been spoiled by the first PCDPs that actually had good battery life

External power: 1.5V with separately available power pack...where can I get one of those...hmm...radio shack...hmm...

I hear ya, man. I have an R50 on its way in the mail. I haven't been this excited about a MD purchase in a while. There's just something cool about vintage MD.

Enjoy!

Oh come on stop waisting your money on a minidisc go buy an ipod or a good headphone amp . sheesh foolish kids these days

A headphone amp plays the best tunes!

My money generally goes in the opposite direction to my waist too

Methinks the E50 is cool, but the E55 is one of the coolest.. of the sonys

you're too old to know what an ipod is Grandpa, besides you probably lost your hearing by now.

You gotta admit though. For a long road trip, a 20 gig iPod with the dock (line) , the belkin battery pack, a nice headphone amp and a good pair of cans are hard to beat.

Minidisc, in my opinion, only really begins to shine when no amp is in use and the amount of music you need is under 2-3 hours (I'm an SP user myself so this would equate to 2 discs or so)

Under such situations, size, ease of use, and extreme battery life make the MD a winner.

Ofcourse, for live recording, MD still reigns king.

Did you know that the iHP-120 can only record for like, 3 hours before it goes dead? *chuckles*

The DR7 could octouple that with no problem.

And if I remember right the iHP doesn't even have VU meters during recording! GASP!

If I want to listen for a LONG time, I'll just bust out one of my portable players/recorders that have rediculous battery lifes...

MZ-S1: about 32 or so
D-EJ912: about 25
D-E880: about 30

The E50 supposedly gets 4 if you're lucky ...dang.

Interesting, how differently people can view things, Fish Tank.

For a long road trip, I would take some cds for the cd player in the car. I'd also stock up my Case Logic MD holder w/24 MDs just in case I wanted to listen to some things that no one else liked. I'd have my Ety 4S's, Sony R50 and Xin super micro as well

I don't see the use for an iPod or it's ilk yet. If I need access to a TON of tunes (if I'm overseas or something), I'll take my laptop and a NetMD Sony S1.

I was hoping that the HD based players would have incredible sound, and it seems that none of them are really spectacular in that department, so I'll hang on to my MDs till I"m convinced there is a clearly superior option.

Hey D-EJ915,

That old E50 looks very sweet, despite its poor battery life. As time goes by, I appreciate (and use) older, non-MDLP units more and more.......What's wrong with me?
