BeoLab 4 or MM-1. Both are beautiful speakers, please leave feedback in comments on why you chose ether one.

Eww... so small. I'd imagine for (much) less money a bookshelf or studio monitor will sound better.

There's lots of studio monitors in that high-priced range that are surely more accurate, just put them on a stand if your desk isn't as big as mine. If you want good bass without a sub, look for a monitor with an 8" woofer.

The BEST "sounding" desktop speakers under 1K [period]

Why either? For those prices you can get a good pair of used passive speakers. If you have to go nearfield at a computer, I think you're better off with headphones.

Kinda hard to back up such a statement.

But tbh it doesn't matter too much because it's bound to be better than both of the toys OP mentioned.

I'm disappointed that B&W would make such a tiny model. Try to turn the volume up on them, and they'll start distorting and sounding like $50 speakers I bet.

How about the Audioengine 2 ? I'm also looking for small speaker for my computer system and so far, I haven't found that much options. Can some of you guys mention all the speakers about the size of the audioengine 2 which is self powered, shielded and under $500 ?

By the way, i checked the Adam and its as big as the Audioengine 5. I just need a speaker as small as the Audioengine 2 or something in between the Audioengine 2 and Audioengine 5.

Absolute max I can go for is HxWxD (8" x 5" x 6") but preferably smaller. I understand that speakers don't perform as good if constrained to such small proportions but I don't have that much space...

Thanks
