Gimme some mute trumpet

Hello,

I love the sound of the trumpet mute. I'd like at least one chilled preferably jazz(y) album to blast. Any recommendations?

Btw, mute all the way if possible. Not just a couple of songs..

Off the top of my head…maybe something by Nils Petter Molvaer?

Obviously, Miles Davis is the no-brainer…

Maybe, maybe :)

I am definitely the no-brainer here when it comes to Miles. What album would you say?

You might just go to one of those sites that allows you to sample stuff and check it out. I think Someday My Prince Will Come and the compilation Blue Miles are predominantly muted, but most of the albums alternate, though the mood created is cohesive, like on Kind Of Blue. Of course, Miles' sound is the blueprint for much of the muted trumpet you hear anywhere nowadays.

That said, I'll bet someone could build a pretty fine compilation focusing exclusively on muted Miles Davis tracks. It'd take a bit of work. but…

Good choice. Also, maybe try something by Jon Hassell? Actually, I'm sensing a pattern I hadn't thought of: Stanko, Hassell and Molvaer are labelmates. They all record for ECM.

Check out 'Round About Midnight by Miles.

Not all muted trumpet - but a must for any Miles fan.

Didn't find what I was looking for but I might have found something better. I like what these guys do. Exciting adventurous music.

About Miles Davis, I just can't be bothered with what I've heard.

Ole Edvard Antonsen

His "Landscapes" album should hopefully fit right in.

Well, if you ever get the chance to meet Stanko, Hassell or Molvaer, it might be a good idea to keep that info to yourself. They worship him.
