Help Please.... Set up question.

Thread Starter

Hi all, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place but as I wasnt sure where to put it I thought here was as good a place as any.

Anyway Im looking to get myself some new headphones, thinking either MS1 or SR125i. But I want to know if either of these would be better suited to working with an ipod classic (latest edition, that I already have) / iBasso CB05 (LOD) and iBasso T3D amp. Also considering maybe the iBasso D2+ boa.

My previous headphones were Bose on ear and Bose in ear, the in ear I sold as I didnt think the sound they produced was worth the £80 they cost and the on ear' I lost on a train. Those I really liked until I decided to get some new ones and have since been reading rather damming reviews of Bose products and the fact they are well marketed and over priced.

Any info or advice would be very welcome.

I suppose it's probably too late to tell you to take the blue pill and go back to your Bose (yes they are overpriced, but they don't seem to leave their owners with the constant need to upgrade - compared to this place, it's cheap happiness), so instead I bid you a hearty welcome!

There will be many people here who can answer your question about the specific headphones/source/amp you've mentioned.  You will have better luck finding them in the full-size headphones forum: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/list/4

Also, don't take another step before you read this post by boomana:  http://www.head-fi.org/wiki/a-hopefully-helpful-headphone-buying-guide-for-newbies-by-boomana

The only thing I can add to this is to ask whether you have actually heard the headphones you are considering buying, or whether you are making your short list and planning a purchase exclusively from reviews.  There are many people on this forum who certainly love Grado and claim they are the best value in the SR125/MS1 pricerange and lower.  There are also many people, myself included (though I do very much like the HF2), who are not particularly fond of their sound.  In face, I'd probably buy Bose over the two cans you've mentioned.  I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't buy them, but in this hobby you can spend a lot of extra money if you don't try before you buy.  Go to your local hifi shop, go to a head-fi meet (see http://www.head-fi.org/forum/list/24), do whatever it takes to listen to the music you like on the headphones you are considering buying.

Good luck and enjoy the music.
