Since people are using an LOD to bypass a portable audio player's amp, what are people using for computers such as my MacBook Pro?

For computers you can use an external DAC to bypass the internal audio circuitry inside the computer.  Something like a DAC with USB input or optical if your computer has an optical out.

Okay...I knew that a DAC would convert the audio signal but I didn't know that it also bypassed the computer's audio circuitry.  Thanks for the info!

Is the digital out on the Pro a minijack optical?

Once a LOD is used, are all pmps equal?

No, just like how all DACs are not equal just because you use the line out (RCA) connectors.  All line outs are not created equal and all digital stages in a PMP are not created equal.
