I love this video from the greatest piano player that ever lived.  But (drummer) Jeff Ballard and (bassist) Larry Grenadier are equally insane!

 

Brad Mehldau Trio doing "Knives Out"

 

Check out the 1:59 mark with Ballard.  Nice improv with the tamborine on the foot!

Yeah, I have my doubts about this Radiohead virus that's infecting the new jazz generation, but this is one of the places it really kicks. Note how Mehldau starts his solo rooting around the low-end á là Lennie Tristano.
