First of all, bear in mind this is a high-end monitor meant (presumably, like the Westone UM3X) mostly for performing musicians. This means ideally these should be worn over the ear to get the best fit, seal and SQ; this, BTW, also helps to prevent microphonics.

My first experience with over-the-ear IEMs was the Shure SE530. I found the over-the-ear aspect quite daunting and a real turn-off at first but I kept reading in several online places that you get used to it. So, at first I found it VERY awkward but after 2 weeks or so things made more sense and later I found it awkward to wear IEMs any other way!  Really. As time goes by you won't really need to use both hands - as you do initially - to get the right fit, and even if you do, it'll all soon become second nature even when you're out and about.

 

Wearing customs is even more awkward at first. In my case for about a year I've been using one hand to put them on and take them off - something unthinkable when I first got them.

To all those people waiting on their SM3s from Sound Earphones I just received this email from Michael.

That aside has anyone been able to locate their order on the new Sound Earphones website? I can't find any information about my order anywhere on their website which is really frustrating.

I like Eric. I don't think he's said anything wrong with that post.  Certainly not rubbed me up the wrong way, leastways.

 

But all I can do is answer his question.  There's nothing wrong with Apple products really.  Really, i do like some of them - the iphone and Touch are cool, and their UI is unparalleled - but I just think when it comes to the sound quality, other products can do things better. Plus they are a massive mulitnational corporation and my inherent love of paranoid seventies sci-fi conspiracy films makes me feel better about championing smaller business concerns, shall we say?

Seems like this thread is gonna get locked as well. Anyways, I have found that the SM3 has excellent synergy with the Samsung P3. I turn on myDNSe with a flat eq and every enhancement turned off or set to zero except for clarity. I set it to +1 and that's it. It sounds less warm and the treble is detailed with good extension. It's a great combo. Back to listening...

It was an odd feeling for me at first, but after getting used to the over-ear positioning, I appreciated it very much. It serves a couple functions.

1) recuces microphonice (as has already been said).

2) it also reduces the possibility that a tug on the cable will dislodge the earphone as the stress is imparted upon the ear first... not the earpiece.

 

The negative I have is that I wear glasses, and both things trying to occupy the same space can be a slight annoyance.

If you have time, could you compare the P3 (SQ Only) to other players (using the SM3)?

Hope all the new SM3 owners enjoy as much as I do!  They are great IEMs and be prepared to hear things you haven't before, or at least hear them in a different way that makes the instruments/music more realistic.

Wow two pages of posts with less than a hand full being on topic .

 

I appreciate some people disliking phrases like Buddy and attempts to continously be funny, and posts that are just chatting versus contributing. But in the above case Eric was asking a legitimate question and not chatting. As for his catch phrase "buddy" it's at worst iritating, not swearing, not racist, just iritating (and only to some, I for example just filter it out so it doesn't bother me), because it's not against any forum rules we all need to respect Eric's right to be himself versus trying to force him to write in a format we feel is appropriate. For those who simply can't stand the expression, they need to put Eric in their ignore list (and if their browser doesn't support that feature mentally ignore his posts versus giving in to the urge to post comments). If you need to complain, find a sympathetic member who you can PM with versus posting public comments.

 

For those who are Eric's friends, you need to stop rushing to his defense or continously use his catch phrase(s) in "support" of your friend. If he or you get attacked use the report function or just let the mods do their job. OR use the PM function to encourage each each other versus posting public comments.

Yup, same.  I guess I won't be cancelling my order afterall.  

 

Did Eric say something controversial?  Must have been deleted since I don't see it.

I'll try to when I have time. I also have the Sony X (seriously considering selling it), the Cowon D2 flashed with D2+ firmware, and the Amp3 Pro1.
