If you don't know, this is basically the DIY version of the Gilmore Lite + DPS (appreciation thread here:http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/478785/gilmore-lite-amp-owners-unite)
This has been a fantastic amp for me (dead silent background, awesome dynamics, punchy, clean, articulate), up until I got into IEMs (Westone UM3X, and then Earsonic SM3). It has a faint background hum with these super sensitive IEMs (and, I'd presume, other very sensitive IEMs as well). But it's been outstanding with every proper headphone I've plugged into it.
FallenAngel built this for me and did what he does for maxx'ing things out. I know nothing about what the different components are or what the names mean, but here's what I pulled from various correspondences with him:
Volume knob:
"The volume control is a 23-step stepped attenuator with Vishay Dale resistors. It's extremely closely channel matched throughout so even at very low volumes, volume tracking is perfect."
PSU:
...a really nice PSU using 2x LM317 instead of LM317/LM337 - LM317 has better specs, better quality caps, better regulators
In the photo you see the following:
* Stepped attenuator volume control
* Front (with cap labeled "100nMBV5") is the ground-loop breaker
* Electrolytics in the amp are Elna Silmic II (RFS)
* The "double resistors" R16/R46 are the gain-setting resistors, if you find the gain too low, just cut one off so they are single resistors and it will double the gain.
* Gain is currently " or 5"
* The dual-PSUs are in the back with ultra-fast diodes
Comes with its power cord, assorted packing materials, and handy shipping box.
Price is US$250 + shipping and Paypal. Or just US$250 for local pickup (Vancouver, BC).
Click on the pics for larger. If you'd like more pics (closer on a component, different angle, whatever), lemme know. The case is a black Hammond case. There is a very small (size of the tip of a ballpoint pen) chip in the paint on the top of the case.
