Newb needs some advice on a "Slim" Headphone amp to pair with Iphone 4 and se530s+HD595's

Thread Starter

Title says it. Im looking for a slim design headphone amp to piggyback with my iPhone. Basically something similar in size to the phone. Mostly to run my Shure se530 (got them for 125 bucks, so dont laugh) IEM's and also occasionally my Sein HD595's. Im in the market for new cans too, but that comes later.

I REALLY like the design and specs on the ALO Audio Rx..alot. But I can seem to find any available anymore. I was looking at a few others, but wanted some advice from the Audiofile guys (you people).

Thanks

Shawn

I would also like advice on a good portable amp for the iPhone 4. $200-300 new or used. Thanks.

The HeadAmp Pico Slim is available for preorder at $349, if you could stretch your budget... For cheap there's the Nuforce Icon Mobile.

I had the Rx and loved it... it's worth the money; I would try to get it used though; they go pretty fast here on the FS forums if you look around...

The Headstage Arrow is the a really nice amp, but you have to wait to get it in your hands. If you can stretch your budget (or go used) there is the TTVJ Slim, Pico Slim, and the ALO Rx that deserve to be looked into.

Don't mean to hijack your thread Vonsa.. I'm using Monster Turbine Pro Golds with my iPhone 4. I thought the combo sounded great until I plugged into my Vaio F11 laptop. If I could get that sound from a iPhone/amp combo I'd be very pleased. This will be my first amp purchase. I really don't want to spend over $200 for a used amp. I'd prefer to buy used to get the best possible amp for the price.

For the price of around $200, Ibasso Mamba D4 seems a good choice and is able to double up as a DAC when used on a laptop or PC.

My Rig:

Iphone -> ALAC -> LOD(CB07) -> Ibasso D4 Mamba -> Shure 530.

Personally felt a wider soundstage and the clarity gets a boost.

Cheers~

Thanks for the input so far. Anyone have experience with the ibasso d10 cobra? They're going for $245 on their site right now. Say the current batch has different caps or something? Are they better?

The iBasso D4 is better than the iBasso D10 (as both an amp and DAC). The iBasso D4 is also newer. The reason the D10 is still around is that it has an optical input. Many people use it with iRiver H1xx. It is still a good amp/DAC, but not as good as the D4.

Thanks man. Hopefully the OP got some questions answered from my questions too!

yea, I did. Thanks guys. I have a pending buy on a Rx, waiting to hear back and make sure the sale is final. Now all I need is a nice LOD (I want a low-rider). Anyone have one sitting around to sell?

^Go to the FS forums. There are plenty there waiting to be bought.

If there isn't one in the FS Forum, you can ask a DIYer to make one for you (ex. qusp?).
