New User PM Limits

Thread Starter

Hey Everybody,

Just joined because there was a used headphone amp for sale that I am interested in.  Do any of you know how the new user limits on PMs work?  I sent my one allowed for the day, and am curious what I have to do to raise that limit.

Thanks,
gnubbs

I'd PM a mod tomorrow... I didn't really realize that there were limits for new guys.

Yeah there are limits for new members. I've had to use email as a way of communicating with some of my more recent sales since you can't go back and forth with them using the PM system here. I got no idea what the requirements of getting that lifted are. Some combination of posts or length of time being a member here probably.

It may have to do with spam prevention.  A big problem on forums is not just people who sign up and post spam in the forums, but do so in PMs instead, which often goes undetected until it has become quite a problem, as people don't always know how to report these things.

You can always become a contributor - I think it lifts some of the limits.

How does one do that now?  I wouldn't mind contributing, but http://www.head-fi.org/forums/payments.php produces a System Error.  Is that link still valid or is there another one?

Regarding the PM limit it also helps limit scammers which is a good thing. Lots of scammers communicate as PM so this is a way to help limit that kind of thing.

I've actually been wondering about that. I'm not sure if Jude has figured out what the benefits for contributing would be now since the upgrades has changed some of the benefits of non paying members such as the PM storage for example.

I'd give Jude a message and see if there's an option for that now.

I am new here too, and am wondering about PM limits.  Is there a place on this site that newbies can go to and read about all of these rules, etc?
