Hello Head-Fi'ers,
It was a very hard decision for me to make, but I am selling my 2 month old MAD Ear+ HD Super II. It works perfectly and I absolutely LOVE the sound, but... There are multiple reasons for the sale:
1. I want to get an SS amp (keeps me from spending money on expensive tubes),
2. I don't actually need the Power of the Super II,
3. The Power supply gets rather hot and produces a slight hummming noise (not in the headphones, the PSU itself hums. Its inaudible while wearing headphones).
I have talked to Lloyd [Lloyd Peppard, who builds the MAD amps] about these issues and he said that this was completely normal and nothing to worry about. Nontheless I was annoyed by this and will hence lower the price.
Again, the amp works flawlessly and sounds wonderful. Each time I listen to the Grado RS1 or the Senn HD600 with the Super II, I am completely amazed. I am not selling it without regrets.
Some Details about the amp:
I am the original owner of the amp, bought it in June this year directly from Lloyd Peppard. Serial number is 1001004.
Chassis color for both amp and PSU case are dark red front plates and black enclosure. The amp has locking Neutrik connectors, so you can't accidentally plug out the headphones while the amp is running. I have drilled some holes into the case of the PSU (see photos below), which should help dissipating the heat a bit.
The amp comes with the following tubes:
Power tubes:
2x Genalex Gold Lion EL84
2x Electro-Harmonix EL84
Driver tubes:
2x GE 5 Star 5751 (NOS, red print, dual mica)
2x JJ ECC83
2x Sovtek 12AX7
( Eventually: 2x Sylvania 5751, grey plates, triple mica - I got a pair from a seller on ebay, however it was defective - the seller is sending me a replacement pair, which hopefully will work)
Total value of the tubes is around 90€.
Asking SOLD € including shipping within Europe and PayPal Fees (original price was 700€ for the amp including shipping + around 90€ for the tubes). Notice that the amp was at a reduced price when I purchased it, now it is around 750€ including shipping! Also consider that you would have to wait for around 3-4 weeks to get a new Super II built.
I would prefer to ship it within europe, but I will consider international shipping (price will be adjusted).
