Just search the forums man, you'll get a feel for what is best for you that way. Here is a random place to start: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/500672/introduction-and-buying-first-good-headphones

I'd look at a pair of Sennheiser HD600s or HD580s FWIR they have almost everything you're looking for except they need an amp.

ultrasone edition 8, sennheiser hd800, sony mdr-r10, beyerdynamic T1

The HD650s will murder anything that requires energy. I'd say that includes your last 3 genres.

If anything I'd say the DT880/600, not because it's good with everything, but because it's not bad for anything.

Where can I find those for ~$350?

^ I think those headphones all blow past the op's budget..   The HD600 are sweet and versatile (tho a little too mellow for rock to my ears) but won't reach their potential unless you get an amp that will cost as much as the headphones.  AH-D5000 sound good to me with all kinds of music (ample bass for hip hop, good soundstage for classical, lively with rock), and work ok straight out an ipod.

Unamped - ATH-AD900

Amped - HD650 / HD600

In the middle - AH-D2000 / AH-D5000

Audio Technica W1000.... OMG... I love these headphones....  IMO when it comes to vocals ATH W1000 > AKG K701, Denon D7000, Ultrasone Pro 900, Grados, everything i have ever heard even ATH ESW10JPN   but i have it paired with a powerful tube amp and did some adjustments....

HD650 for me is the perfect headphone for relaxing on a couch in a dark room listening to orchestral pieces and electronic symphonies (strange genre). I find it really life sucking for anything that requires energy, like RnB, pop, rock, anything on my sister's iPod.

To my ears, the SA5000.  But only if recabled.  Nothing expensive, just Mogami DIY.  Stock cable is great for monitoring but too sterile to enjoy recreational listening.

I would definitely have to say AD900s without an amp would be great.
