If indeed the FI-BA-SS is a bright (sort of) version of SM3, I am very afraid that the FI-BA-SS is for me biggrin.gif And if the K3003 is indeed very (sort of) similar to the K701, then I am doomed biggrin.gif

 

edit: I sold the EM3pro just because I didn't want to reshell it anymore and I was playing it with a boosted treble on a RockBoxedFuze.

I sold my K701 because it was still lacking in the mids for my taste.

I don't hear SM3 in the FAD SS really much or at all.  Very different sigs to me.  I thought the EM3Pro was the brighter SM3 already.

^In any case, I still wanted more treble from the EM3 (fit not mine).

It was very unfortunate that I was not able to audition the K3003 from the nearest JBL shop yesterday. Still hoping that the dealer will make it available.

Auditioning the FI-BA-SS is very remote :P

Some minor ramblings here and there.  Not a T50RP, closer to a Beyer 880 sig I'd say.  I'm sure James would be more qualified to confirm or deny that.

Can't help I'm afraid, never heard the T50RP or 880.

I want it warmer but not like K701 mids which sounds 'clinical' to me. I sold my K701 and K501 but retained the T50RP and now have the T40RP. HD650's warmness is ok to me but sounds rolled-off on the highs - I can live with its bass but would like Beyer bass.

K701 bass; HD650 mids but maybe toned down juuust a little bit - something to the K701 level I guess; and Beyer highs - maybe that will fit my taste. If its not too much to ask biggrin.gif  Or have I just described the K3003? Wild guess only biggrin.gif

Judging by the headfonia review, I agree with Anaxilus that the FI-BA-SS would be closest to the dt880. The K3003 sound definitely more like what you're looking for. Or maybe the PFE232, if you prefer the leaner and less textured armature bass.

^Thanks a lot. I would really love to have the FI-BA-SS added to my single driver collection but if it's not for my taste, that's a lot of wasted money biggrin.gif I'll try to audition the K3003 and report back on the other thread. Cheers!

since i already own a um3x and w4, do you think there's still a need for the sm3 v2's?

 

i'm just really curious to it's surround soundstage.. sometimes ilean more on the um3x than the w4 because of how intimate and emotional it is to me..

Haven't heard the UM3X, but the SM3s are quite different from the W4, most notably in mids density and spatial presentation. Vocals are more dense and forward than on the W4, yet the SM3's unique presentation still conveys a good sense of spaciousness, just not forward projected, but rather surrounding you. You may end up loving or hating it, but they're at least different enough to give them a try.
