Hi everyone,

I have read lots of your threads and I got excited to connect my old speakers (that have a red and black wire) to my labtop.

Is that possible with out buying anything or use some old stuff that we have at home? and also I don't want to harm my labtop.

Thank You

You could get a T amp. They are generally pretty cheap. I've been suggested that for connecting my speakers to a computer though I'm sure there are other ways. I'd also be interested in responses to this question.

You absolutely need a power amplifier to drive a pair of passive speakers, the cheapest option being a T-amp. If you already have one you just have to conenct your laptop line out to one of its imputs channel via a mini-trs to rca adaptor like this one, pretty easy to find.

also bear in mind that most passive speakers were not designed for near-field monitoring. meaning they sound best from 6 or 8 feet back, min. so if you plan to hook them up as desktop speakers, it may not be optimal.

Do you have an old stereo receiver at home?

You'll want to use a 1/8" to RCA cable (like the one pictured above) to connect your laptop to the receiver.

Then hook the speakers to the receiver, and you'll be able to play music from the laptop.

Your laptop has a very small amp built in, but it is not powerful enough to connect speakers to directly. You need the old receiver to power the speakers.

Thanks guys!

I have just bought a Stereo Cable, 3.5mm to 2RCA , but its says that its for iPods and mp3 players, I tried it and it work. Is this ok for the labtop?

I'ts ok, a cable is just a piece of wire, if the connectors are the ones you need, you're fine...

Are you getting enough volume out of those speakers?

yes, they are OK, but now when I connect my mic to the labtop it is making a disturbing noise! what does that mean?
