Anyone know what kind of enclosure this is?

It looks like a typical project box, but I've never seen a flat top like that (and I really like it - it makes it look much better than the typical rounded-edge project boxes). I'm also not sure what material it is... diecast aluminum?

I've been agonizing over an enclosure for my desktop GrubDAC for weeks. I thought I finally decided on a Hammond 1455J1202BK, but thought it was kind of overkill for a tiny Grub (and kind of expensive... a $15 box for $25 in parts?)

My ideal box has to be able to house two RCAs, a toggle switch, and a mini-USB input all on the back face - this is why I had to go with such a large Hammond case, as they're designed to be oriented in only one direction. This generally means a ~4"x2x1 size box, but I'd really like to know what enclosure jericoh is using for the flat top...

As I said in the grub thread:

Given your requirements, the tall version of this might be cool:

doh, thanks - I saw those Hammonds using Mouser's search but didn't find a good pic of the top portion.

D: they're really expensive...

Where abouts are you... you should be able to find them for $10-15. My uncle works at hammond so he periodically brings me boxes... I just used that exact box to house my cMoy but the 1590N1 is definately the most useful, a little larger and taller.

I'm in the US, but all the enclosures I'm looking at that are the size I'd want (from Mouser) are about $15, which is the same price as the enclosure I was originally considering, which I think looks better if it's sitting next to my amp. I might just scratch the second enclosure and get a slightly longer main box and house both DAC and amp inside... as long as I can find a way to mount the mini-USB. Maybe lots of hot glue...

There is this:

It more for a larger box.  You use it as a coupler and then use a short cable internally, which in the grub's case you can cut and attach to the breakout points.
