Want to build my first amp

Hey Head-Fi. Im new here and also new to audio amps and higher end headphones in general. About a year ago I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD555s and I love them. I mainly bought them for use at night with my computer and playing guitar and they do well for both. However, they do lack in certain areas such as bass and volume. With the volume maxed out on my PC they just arent loud enough. Im sure part of the reason is due to the open ear design. Also I think the HD555s just naturally dont have alot of bass so I am hoping an amp will help and I really want to build one such as the CMoy.

So my question is...

Obviously I know the CMoy is a great place to start with amps and I will most likely definitely be building one. However, according to you guys, the experts, will the CMoy amp be sufficiant enough to hear a noticable difference in the sound? Or are there other DIY amps you might suggest?

And lastly will an amp like this help with the bass impact at all? I assume with an amp on the line that I will be getting a much fuller sound but then again Im not sure if the CMoy is up to the full task.

Anyway I'll be doing lots of reading up on the forum in the meantime! Thanks for your input!

I'd say build the CMOY, pick a bass-heavy opamp like the OPA2132 and go from there.  You'll like building it, it'll give you more volume and very likely to make the headphones sound better than off the sound card (which you didn't mention by the way).

Yeah I forgot to mention that. Its Realtek which is onboard my Intel motherboard. Nothing interesting. Thanks for the opamp recommendation. I'll look into it!
