Tower speakers for the future (specs inside) - Page 2

I would personally go with a set of single drivers like tektons or omegas and pair them with a sub. A set-up like that would give the best overall sound IMO.

Still looking at kits, The Loud Speaker Kit does ship to Canada, but I seriously want to know how much would the shipping cost be for a pair of F6's...

Watch Futureshop for deals on the Energy RC-70. FS is sometimes selling them with a 500$ rebate on each speaker which would most likely make them fit within your budget. You might even be able to just walk into a FS and ask for that price. They are very well regarded speakers and they have a very smooth/non-fatiguing sound with great bass too. They are definitely on the warm side. You would also be buying from FS which means that they could easily be returned if you are not happy.

You can see some measurements below. I think they even got that mid bass bump that you are looking for.

Here are two pictures of mine which I recently bought from FS for about 1400$ shipped. I live in a condo and I think I pretty much gave up on getting a sub to go with them. They produce plenty of bass on their own and anymore than that would probably piss off my neighbours.

Looks nice at least. How's the grill-off compared with grill-on sound? And is it a 4-ohm or an 8-ohm since my receiver is 8-ohm.

And that silver box... A Scientific Atlanta Explorer 9800? What do you know, another Videotron user.

Should pull those towers away from the wall a bit more. Killing your dispersion with the cabinet. The extra space behind would probably benefit the sound as well. Less boomy, more defined, especially if those are rear ported.

To be honest I haven't tried using the grill yet. Last two speakers I tried with or without the grills, the difference was so insignificant that I know I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test. I'll give it a try when I come back from work tonight though. They are 8-ohm speakers and are quite efficient too(95db). Spec sheet below.

I wish I could, but the room they are in is fairly small and it would just put them in the way. I just don't have a choice. Fortunately, Energy supplies port plugs with their speakers, so I was able to get rid of the boominess. Beside, I can use a bit of bass re-enforcement since I am using them without a sub.

Even an inch or two further out from the back wall would help a bit with the imaging......otherwise those are decent towers considering they came from FS no less....

Peete.

There are a lot of things I could do to improve the sound, some of which I plan to do in the future, but for now this is as best as it gets. They still sound amazing in far from ideal condition, so I'm not complaining. ;)

Alright so to answer your question. I put on the grills today and I really couldn't notice any immediate change in sound. Maybe if I sat there for an hour to hunt for a difference I could find one, but I really have better things to do like just enjoying the music.

Ah, just that some speakers are 'meant to be listened with the grills on for that the grills alleviate phase distortions right in front of the cabinet' or such, as I read on Stereophile.

Thanks. :)
