Another cMoy build...

Well, as is typical of us new diy'ers, I had to build a cMoy amp.

The amp is currently made of parts I had lying around, and is using a texas instruments tl272 dual opamp, and, as I could not locally find a proper pot is running full out. I got it right first try, but as it is running at full volume I am getting quite a bit of noise... whether it is the opamp, or a byproduct of running the amp full out, I am unsure. It does make a huge improvement on the sound coming out of my iphone, without my LOD or headphones (I left them in the car...) and I will either be finding the proper pot, or setting it a permanent volume and just run it out the headphones of my phone for now. I will edit with pictures once it is in the enclosure.

my next project is going to be a starving student (modded for other tubes ofcourse) and that will be within the next few weeks once I get a bit more cash.

And out of curiosity is it possible, instead of using a "2 channel pot" (not sure of proper name) using 2 seperate 10k ohm pots, one for L and one for R? if it is I will have the amp done tonight.

sorry, I didnt see the remenants of breakfast on the stove when I took the pictures...

Yes you can use 2 single pots instead a 2 gang pot.  Just make sure you get a log taper pot.

By the Sayal board, I'm guessing you are in Southern Ontario.  While Sayal is good for some stuff, you'll get used to ordering from Digikey and Mouser.

Sayal is great for all of your generic parts, but when you have to find specialized ic's, or good jacks etc. you are screwed. The guy that runs the store is pretty good, and if you have more than $15 worth of parts he can get anything in for you... proabably orders from digikey.

I  have built a few guitar amps and am starting a boutique pedal company so I know where to get most parts:-).

2 single pots it is.

btw don't buy that board from sayal, if you can see where I had the 3- hole jumpers, the holes are so small you have to go over and then under making an S with the wire to get it to work... just a pain in the A!@
