Im in the market for some good 2.0 speakers to use for with my computer. What are some good speakers in the $1000 price range that are suitable for computer use?

Thanks

All speakers are suitable for computer use. Your PC simply acts as a combined CD/DVD drive, MP3 player and DAW.

It also depends on whether you want a full range system designed to fill a room and power an occasional party or a small. convienient, possibly even portable  system  suitable for genuine desktop use. i.e. with a smaller sweet spot but v. high fidelity.

Have a think and look at models from the lower end of the Genelec, ADAM and Focal ranges for best value. Also consider the higher end of the Mackie and KRK ranges.

Any professional powered monitor for nearfiled listening will do the trick, even for far less than your budget, and will still sound good...Check any pro-audio store...

I would go with a separate small tube or solid state amp and a set of tekton 6.5's or 4.5's if you dont need super loud volumes. I think powered monitors might be a good option but personally many monitors even high-end ones I heard sound thin and kind off lifeless,  they do let you hear alot of detail though.

Michael monitors are supposed to sound tortilla flat, and accurate, so that description should be due other causes, the amps inside them are specifically designed for the drivers and to correct any deficiency in the spectrum, just to offer a real flat response, of course ones with more luck than others...

I decided on Adam A5X - $900/set.  They can go from 50hz-50khz.  Add another $450 for Sub7 if you want to go <50hz.

You can't get a better deal on speakers than buying used today.

I'm an Infinity fan, and a few of the vintage little bookshelf Infinities have a legendary reputation today.  There's the Modulus, which is normally paired with a servo subwoofer (but is still good without it, just less low bass), and the 1978 Infinitesimal, which features a dual voice coil woofer that goes astonishingly low with authority.  The Kappa 5 performs similarly as well.  They all have Infinity's renowned EMIT tweeters, which when amped correctly will be incredibly detailed and smooth at the same time.

Now if you've got some room to spare on or near your desk, I would go for no less than a pair of Klipsch Heresys.  Seriously.  Heck, you could probably power them with a desktop headphone amp.  Realistically, get an 8-15 Watt little tube amp for them.  If you get lucky you might find a pair for a steal at a secondhand store, but more often they're found for $300-$500 from knowledgeable sellers.  If you've got the room, no bookshelf speaker or monitor could even compete - assuming you want something fun to listen to and rock out to - not a perfectly neutral, bland monitor.

Anyway, whatever you are looking for you should definitely check out Audiogon.  The search tool is your friend, especially the price/category one.  Craigslist is an excellent place to search as well.  Don't be afraid to drive to pick up a good deal on the right pair of speakers either.  I drove eight hours to pick up my Kappa 8's, and over twenty to pick up my Renaissance 90's (both floorstanding Infinity speakers).  I don't regret either trip at all.

another suggestion: Role Audio Kayak ($695) + amp.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Will an active speaker suffer from computer noise or ground loops if feed by rca out's of my sound card?
