I need a PMP. It will only be used for audio. In other words video is of little importance, but I do want FM and I want it to sound very good. I'm looking at the Sony X Series, but I'm not quite ready to buy. I've heard so many bad things about the browser on it. Does the WiFi still work well for downloading podcasts? I'm not realy into the podcast thing, but it sounds cool. I could try to get my hands on a A Series. I think the NW A845 has FM in the range of 87.5-108 MHz, unlike the Japanese version. Does the A Series sound as good as the X Series? I might still have to order it though from Japan or the UK (I live in the US). There is also the Meizu M9 and the Viliv P3 Prime, but I can't seem to get much info on them. For some reason, the Zune HD doesn't appeal to me, and the Cowons seem slightly oversized. Sony is also coming out with a Walkman-phone that runs Android, but it seems slightly oversized, and again there is not too much info on it. Is there anything notable on the horizon other than the A Series?

I just looked at the Zune HD at BB and was very impressed with it. Sound was fine, it does FM, and despite the bad comments here on head-fi about it's browsing on wifi, I had no issues at all. It rendered pages well and quickly. I tested it by coming to head-fi figuring it would have never been to this site so it couldn't have anything stored for it. I browsed a few threads and except the constant zooming and scrolling it felt like I was on my home computer.
I went to compare the iTouch to the Zune HD, but the iTouch they had on display wasn't useful cause it had no content at all loaded. The Zune HD had a sampler CD with artwork, which all looked great, with the slide show style play screen similar to Zune's computer software.
I think you should try to look at these players in person. I didn't see any Sony player there with wi-fi, unless it was considerably smaller than the iTouch or Zune. Definitely don't discount the Zune, however, just on gut feeling. From my short trial I would be happy with it, but I'm cooling my heels so I can try my friend's iTouch tomorrow at work before I lay down the cash.

Yeah I've tried both, prefer the J3 for various reasons. I recommend the J3 a lot because it is a great player for those not willing to make many compramises.
In my eyes it's the perfect all rounder. You may think otherwise and so be it but the features it offers is pretty hard to beat.
EDIT: For the record I don't own either players.
Also I'd like to think I don't always recommend the J3. It's not the DAP for everyone and I accept that, unlike a few members I could name around here.
