ecrater deals too good to be true?

Hello everyone, I've been on the hunt for an older version ipod that I can rockbox. I've come across what seems to be a great deal on this site ecrater but it seems too good to be true. For those of you who aren't familiar with ecrater, it's a website where people can open their own online store, a lot like ebay without auctions. http://gadgetparts.ecrater.com/p/8199254/ipod-80gb-video-5g-mp3 This 80gb 5g ipod video which is said to be "brand new" is only 135$ which seems like a pretty good deal to me. Unfortunately the seller gadgetparts does not have much feedback. The store is located in Tennessee so I'm happy it's in the U.S, less worries there but I'm skeptical it will be brand new. The store does sell products they list as used and what condition they are in, so it's not like they pass everything off as new which yet again eases my worries. What do you guys think, anybody have experience with ecrater?

All I could suggest would be to ask the seller a question and have them confirm that the iPod has NOT been refurbished or used and is new and sealed in it's original box.

Other than that I've got nothing. Also this thread I made might be useful to you, check it out. http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/496103/best-place-to-buy-refurbished-new-ipod-video-5-5g

Thanks again hero kid :) I actually emailed him a couple of days ago but with no response which increased my suspicion, I'm basically going wait on a email back or I just won't get it from him. That link has interesting options, I see your were on the hunt an ipod, did you end up getting one yet, if so which place did you chose?

Well I got one from the FS section but it was a shoddy reburb that used a 30gb logic board in a 80gb iPod meaning it only had 32MB of RAM and not the correct 64MB.

This is a problem for me as I planned to install a 204gb HDD and I was already experiencing database lag with the 80gb full. So I'm in the process of returning that iPod and am still on the search.

That experience however has left me very wary of refurbished iPods and I feel much more comfortable trying to find one second hand that was bought brand new. So to date I haven't found one but I have my eyes on a few listings on eBay so I'll see how that goes.

It seems ebay has got a resent rush of 5/5.5g ipods, this is one for example http://cgi.ebay.com/03-Apple-iPod-Video-Black-80GB-5-5th-Gen-GRADE-MP3-/250620469602?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item3a5a24e162

on another note I recieved an email back from gadgetparts from ecrater saying the ipod has been refurbished to new, with new parts such as battery, case, and hd, not sure what else there really is. I think I'm going to take a chance and try out something new with ecrater. If I do I'll let you guys know how it goes.

The only real problem you face is if the guy replaced the logic board with a 30gb version, meaning you'd only have 32MB if RAM.

The other thing is if they replaced the click wheel with a cheap fake one it won't be as sensitive as the original ones. Other than that I think refurbs are great.

Also eBay for me here in Aus has hardly any. I get about 5 listings and most of them are incorrectly labled 6th gens :/

Oh and with refurbs be really careful to understand the grading whether is be "Gold" or "Silver" or "Class A" and be sure to understand what that actually means.
