Recommendations for headphones under $100

I posted this in the general board, but I think this belongs here.

Apple's headphones are crap and make my ears hurt pretty bad. I want good headphone that are comfortable and under $100. That's pretty much it. I'll probably prefer over the top headphones. I have an ipod touch, so portable ones would be awesome too. I've been looking for a while, and I can't find the perfect ones.

I listen to most types of genres but I favor rock and alt. rock. I don't want open cans and I want it to be easily portable, or somewhat portable.

I've been looking around, and Head-Direct RE0 is looking really good. Can anyone offer input on these?

If you really need a portable set, the Audio Technica ES7 is great.

I wouldn't say I really need them, it would just be a good option.

I look at reviews for the Audio Technica ES7 and some people say it has comfort issues. Bad after 20 minutes of use. Does that happen to you?

I'd definitely throw a vote in there for the RE0s, though as a word to the wise they will sound pretty bass light without a better player or a headphone amp.  It's my understanding that the new RE-ZEROs will give you a little more oomph in the low end, and that's still technically under 100.  Definitely if you're looking for something for your iPod though, IEMs are the way to go.  If you want a little more low end, take a look at the Nuforce NE-6/8 line.

I'm ok if the bass isn't as heavy if the mids and highs are really good. I'll look for Nuforce too. Thanks

Wow, I think the Nuforce NE-6 is something I might switch too. What is the difference between that and the NE-8?

The NE-8 is their slightly higher end IEM; it's more balanced and neutral overall, slightly better imaging, less bass impact.  The NE-6 is a much more bass heavy IEM, more impact and low-mid presence, but nowhere near as detailed or transparent in my experience.  I use the NE-7m (NE-6 with a microphone basically) for my phone and it works nicely.  At the NE-8 price range I'd say the RE0 is a far superior product, but the NE-8 is not going to be anywhere near as amp/source picky.
