OK I have a vintage Technics SU-8044 and sometimes it drops the left channel after some crackling.

I dont really fancy paying £100 to have it serviced. A guy who works in the audio shop 'Lasyl' said I should run a hoover (vacum cleaner) accross the top and then spray switch cleaner around the input selector and volume knob.

I'm preparing to do so but I am a little worried something might short or wether its a good idea in general.

I'm pretty sure its down to the input selector knob as the problem gets worse depending how the knob is positioned.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated as I tend to value the help and information from headfiers highly, and it would put my mind at rest before I start spraying things into my amp.
