Thank you or for reply! I'd sure like to see this thread goign again... beerchug.gif

My only experience with tube rolling on this amp is with the PSVANE tubes I currently have, that I bought because I read somewhere they were great. So, I didn't even try the stock tubes that came with the amp, so I don't really know how good these PSVANE tubes are (or any other tubes). I read the previous posts about using 12AT7 tubes in this amp, and I recently bought a NOS pair of GE 12AT7's from eBay to try. I'm still waiting for them to arrive, but I'll post my findings once I get them and try them.

So, you think those reissue Gold Lion EL84's are the best option for the power tubes, even against NOS tubes?

I don't know that the GL EL84s are better than NOS power tubes, but they sound good to me and are readily available.  I've tried some NOS Sylvania black plate 6BQ5s and didn't think they sounded any better than the GLs.

Ok, great! I think I'll try to source a pair of GL EL84's to test! I just have to find out where to get a matched pair at the best price...

Do you have any experience with silicone tube dampers? I've read that the results specially with pre-amp tubes are very good, and I might try those things too!

I have some of the tube damping rings around here somewhere.  Honestly I've never used them though.  Unless you tubes are microphonic, they should not be needed.

Jim McShane does a great job of testing GL tubes and stands behind them.

Just an update on the NOS G.E. 12AT7 I recently bought to try on my Ming-Da, and that I'm really enjoying atm! Sure, the PSVANE 12AX7 I was using are lot more detailed and with better soundstage, but I'm enjoying the organic and warmer sounding NOS G.E. straight out of the box! Maybe it's because the PSANEs aren't yet fully performing at their max (the manufacturer states they need at least 75 hours of use before starting to perform at their best, and mine have only around 24 hours of use)...

Now I need to try some Genalex EL84s and see what changes! Oh, and I'm using the Ming-Da only with my HD650 with an aftermarket copper cable, but loving the results... smile.gif

BmWr75, I see you own the LCD-2's, but do you use them with the Ming-Da? popcorn.gif

I've not driven the LCD-2s with the Ming Da amp much.  No reason this has not happened other than too many HP and amp combos going on.

Genalex Gold Lion EL84 reissue matched pair ordered! Actually I'm enjoying the PSVANE EL84's paired with the NOS 12AT7 G.E.'s very much, but I'm just curious about the Gold Lion's... smile.gif
