Well from my experience it does just fine, my p3 outputs similar power to the d4, and it powers the DT990 to levels you can't listen at, no clipping, no noise or interference. So I don't see the problem.

I'm quite happy about my dt770 80 ohm from beyerdynamic, even tho I don't have an amp.

 

Plenty of bass
