Looking for a good pair of bass rich headphones.

I owned the beats tour by dr. Dre, as well as some koss headphones and I really want to step up.
I listen to a lot of heavy metal and electronic music, which I love the bass kick of the drums and the bass crash of electronic music, yet still appreciate crisp highs and mids. Looking for a good set of headphones and an amp that is not too crazy expensive(500$ total spending preferably). I have looked into grados and AKG headphones but I just don't know about bass with them, I'm sure at this price the. Mids and highs will be wonderful I'm just wanting great resonant bass as well. Suggestions?

If you're looking for bass that will be fitting for metal and electronic music, I think you'll be disappointed with AKG headphones. Give Ultrasone or higher-end Denon a look.

Open or closed?

For 'closed', I agree with blackzarg, Denons (D5000) will give you more than enough bass.

I was also looking into ultrasone hfi-2400's with a good ibasso amp. Think that would work? If so which amp from ibasso would be best?

the d4 is pretty hard to beat.

has a dual-chip dac built in.

and can be run off usb or 9v battery.

and sounds really nice.

Hmm that does sound like quite a deal. And they have good pricing too.

Okay so I'm down to the v- moda crossfade lp headphones or the ultrasone hfi2400 headphones.
I hear they both have rich bass. If I got the ultrasone I would get the d4 headphone amp. I just gotta choose. Any opinions? Anyone experience both and can tell me. Differences?

For Quality bass phones I recommend Beyerdynamic DT990, Ultrasone ProLine 550, Denon D5000 in that order. I wouldn't advise you to go the 2400 if you want the best bass. The 2400 is a redundant model which many say doesn't sound great for any purpose.

NEVER do open back ultrasones.  Pro series ftw.  I recommend 550, 750, 900
