New to DIY - Good beginner project?

The urge to build a DIY amp finally has gotten on to me, though I'm fairly new to DIY after all (only have experience with soldering hearing aids). I'm looking to build an amp that does a good job with Darth Beyers and is fairly easy or moderate to build, any recommendations on that matter?

I don't know if you want solid or hollow state, but if you want tubes, I recommend going with a low voltage hybrid like the Millett Minimax. It's less dangerous (though it always is), you can buy a kit with the enclosure already built, and it's mostly PCB, with very little wiring needed. The tube rolling is relatively cheap and limited (3 types of tubes at 5$ each last time I checked). I also think it sounds good :).

For solide state, I'll let someone else answer.

Yeah, I was looking for a SS amp, forgot to mention that in my OP post.

I wouldn't have known!

Your other "first project" should be to search through the DIY forums for "beginner project" or "first project".  Lots and lots (and lots!) of good ideas already here.  This way you can assess how your skills stack up, and see what others found workable.  One man's CMOY is another man's Dynahi.

Welcome to the DIY zone!
