Looking to upgrade to better earphones

So I am tired of my usual Apple earphones being a heap of nonsense and always breaking. I am looking for some better earphones. But i dont want to spend a ridiculous amount of money either.

I am sorry for posting this here, I am just not sure about the different types of earphones to get and which ones are the best within a particular budget

What budget do you have in mind?  That will help people give some specific recommendations.

ah, i knew i forgot something... Well, I have a budget of around $100-$150, but might be persuaded to go up to $200

Open earbud, or closed IEM?

Big bassy sound, or balanced neutral sound?

Since you mentioned Apple earphones, I assume iPod source?  If not what?

Answers to these will help narrow down suggestions.

I am thinking more along the lines of closed IEM

Maybe a bit more bassy sound, but would like something thats balanced (not too fussy about this)

Yep, the original iPod ones. they just break to easily for me (gone through about 4 of them in 1 year)

From most recommended to least (yet still highly recommended):

Fischer Audio DBA-02 ($170)

Radius DDM ($150)

Head-Direct RE0 ($80)

These are all great IEMs, and any of them will be a huge upgrade over iBuds. I only listed ones that I personally tried and though sounded much better than others in their price range. There are probably other great ones in your budget, but I haven't tried them out.

nice! Thanks for coming back to me about choices!

I like the Fischer Audio DBA-02 but I dont seem to find any info on Radius DDM? Would you happen to have a link?

Thanks for the links!

I am reading that they are an absolute nonsense about comfort and positioning. So I guess that means I am in need of earphones that are comfortable to wear

Comfort will vary from person to person as it is dependent on ear shape. Especially with IEM's.

I don't have much experience of different IEM's but being in a similar position to you I bought a relatively cheap pair of IEM's, which had pretty respectable SQ Sennheiser CX300's.

Some people on here hate them but I thought they were pretty good.

More important, they gave me the chance to try an IEM and see if I could get on with them. Before spending more money.

If you have big problems with fit, after trying all the tips that you can get hold of, you could consider some portable on ear headphones such as the PX 100's. HTH.

Thanks for that! :)

I have tried my friends IEM's, but that was some time ago and I have always been interested in getting a pair. I might consider getting the CX300's before anything else.

Have you tried the IE7?

and comfort wise?

ie7 are more comfortable over long periods as they are shallow fit ,but that means they do not isolate that well, c3 are still very comfortable though and isolate very well as they go deep into the ear chanel
