Would it be like this? Found these funny (and obviously fake if you should wonder) ads on http://www.divinecaroline.com/22272/100562-modern-electronics-visualized-1977#1

Probably. I saw that and some other cool pictures in another thread around here... but yea that would be awesome. Of course if it was like that then than now..... JH13 quality in the average universal is what I'm hoping for lol.

Huh? Modern hi-fi was already available in 1977. You could get a Linn Sondek or Rega turntable, some great tubes were actually still in production and old McIntosh gear was dead cheap, Quad ESLs and AMTs were on the market, and no one saw much value in those antiquated 300Bs, 2A3s, 45s, and much else. Great records were being pressed, nobody knew what the "Loudness War" was, and FM radio actually had music worth listening to. Oh, and the Sennheiser HD-414 was available (they're really quite good - listen to a pair some time) and you could also get a DT48.

So, how far have we really come since 1977?

True true. I think we got a lot shinier with a lot more "bells and whistles".

:) Well, there was some good tape being produced and some of the older FM portable radios weren't half bad.
