Head-Direct has agreed to send us the RE262 to test out. Still waiting on word of whether or not we should expect to raffle it at the end or send it back. If they want us to send it back I want you guys to decide if return shipping is worth having them here or not. Return shipping to china might get kinda 'spensive, and moving from free to paid attendance for one earphone is a bit of a stretch at this point, so we'll see what head-direct wants us to do with them after the event. I will list them as a sponsor once I figure out exactly what the requirements/etc are.

It appears that head-direct wants us to raffle the item off at the end of the meet. Somebody is going home with a pair of yet released RE262's, the new FLAGSHIP iem. That's right, one of our raffle prizes is a top end ear phone.

 

 

Some details on this phone:

 

Impedance: 150ohm

Single Driver dynamic.

 

That's all we know.

 

 

I guess we'll learn more when we hear the sample!

It seems like the right thing to do, but they didn't specify that it was mandatory. After all, the winner of the IEM will be one of the first owners worldwide.

I bought the board but i never got around to building it. If i can find the time to source the parts before hand ill put it together. That proly wont happen though.

No pressure at all, bud. Just wanted to let everybody know I'm done seeking loaner gear. I may try and come up with a few more fun things, but past that I'm about done. Now it's up to you guys to just show up and have a good time.

ALO audio said they'd send " a cable ". The next email he told me it was one of ALO's Senn 650/600 cables. We only have a 580 coming (though I am trying to see if whiplash might be able to toss us some 650's to borrow), but it'll be fun to test this out. Specifically, ALO SXC x OCC 6 foot Sennheiser HD6XX. (though I assume this should fit in an HD580 which we should also have at the event?)

Spirit world will also be sponsoring the event. Scotchguy has arranged this, so thank him! He will also be hosting the bourbon tasting himself there, so feel free to ask him any questions regarding it.

 

They will be hosting a bourbon tasting; There will be approximately 6 to 8 bourbons available for tasting, and this is free for attendees (of age, of course; Normally a 10$ value!).

 

Those who buy a sandwich will will receive a cookie/bar/fountain drink on the house.

 

Also a 10% discount will be applied to all purchases made by attendees on liquor, wine, or beer (this does not count towards food). (October 9th, only)

Hello Headfi-ers

 

My name is Devin.  I work at Spirit World, and I am the Whisk(e)y Consultant (self appointed title).  I am excited to welcome you all to Spirit World after the meet at Custom Electronics.  Anyone can attend, as we have the full deli with plenty of non-booze related items.  I plan on reserving a chunk of the seating area in the back of the shop.  I will be leading a Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon tasting at 6:00 PM that Saturday (Oct 9th).  Anyone of age attending Head-Fi is encouraged to participate (seeing as it's free). Feel free to bring friends and/or significant others along!  Spirit World is stocked with over 1000 wines and over 450 beers.  We sell wine by the glass at $3.99 and we have plenty of beer to choose from by single bottle.  

 

These are the Bourbons I plan on serving at the Tasting:

 

Rip Van Winkle 10 Year

Rip Van Winkle 10 Year 107 Proof

Buffalo Trace (one of my favorites)

Eagle Rare 10 Year Single Barrel

Ridgemont Reserve 1792

Sazerac Rye(not a Bourbon, but just as delicious)

Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel

 

and Possibly Woodford Reserve, or a Geroge Dickle Expression

 

For those who do not like whiskey, we have plenty of beer or wine to choose from if you want something refreshing while at Spirit World.  If anyone has a favorite beer they specifically would like to see in the cooler, I will take suggestions.  The same goes for white wine (yes James, I can load the cooler with Saracco if you would like).

RE262 and ALO cable are here. 

 

RE262 is simply AMAZING. One of the benefits to having this gear at my place a bit before the release is I can test stuff out prior. And holy crap these sound great!

 

To quantify that, amazing for IEM. They have a larger mouth, so a lot of my favourite tips won't work for 'em, but the included fit kit is nice. Bass is nice. But there's a veil on the highs. Mids (male vocals are amazing) really stand out. Symbals in the distance don't have the trailing hiss they should and sound muffled. Front and center stuff sounds perfect. If I won them the Westone UM1 would be up for sale in a heartbeat, especially because of the high impedance. It's got amp written all of it, and what is more almost any source wouldn't be noisy with 'em. PERFECTLY BLACK background.

 

A lot of good things to say about 'em. I'm sure they're hard to drive, though. I'll test it on my droid.
