If you had the choice to be blind or deaf.. - Page 2

I'd keep sight. As much as I love music, the quiet would probably be nice after awhile. I'd still be able to read, I'd still be able to do woodwork, solder stuff, and much else. I could still drive and ride a motorcycle, too.

Plus, I'd have the perfect excuse not to talk to the oddballs who turn up in the bar now and then.

I'd keep my sight and check out girls quietly

And by extension build speakers. You could become the Beethoven of sound reproduction.

I would give up hearing any day over sight. Being able to see is too important to me and I feel its easier to learn to live w/out sound then sight

Many here already have, with the development of consumer IEMs!

I would have to give up the hearing. Sight is too important for everyday use. Anyways, for those giving up sight so they can sit around and listen too music, how will you know what cd to pick out to listen too if you dont have sight. You will go insane pulling out the lady gaga cd everyday hoping to hear miles davis.

unless of course you like lady gaga and not miles davis :P

I'd give up my hearing without hesitation. While I love this hobby and it has given me many many hours of enjoyment I can't give up sight. It is too important in my life to give up. I would not be able to make a living without my sight. I can still make a living to a certain extent without my hearing.

There's a phenomenon where you can see music. I don't know how to describe what that person said, but giving up sound would be fine in that case. Imagine all the money we'd save! But then there's also increased sensitivity to sounds, so it acts like a sonar... hard to choose...

...I would choose to be deaf.

Being blind sure limits you a lot more in daily life.

Being deaf would suck, but I'm much prefer it to being blind. At least I could still watch TV with subtitles, do work around the house, shopping, etc....

Making and appreciating music is too central to my sense of self for me to give up hearing over sight.  I don't think I could be happy without hearing, though I know people all over the world find a way to do just that.

Losing my sight would bestow way more hardship on my family than losing my hearing.  My wife would probably have to do nearly all the bread winning as well as the child care, cooking, etc.  I would be a lump on a bump, selfishly and happily listening to my headphones or playing my drums. I would not want my existence to be a burden on my family.  Again, people and families do adjust to life without sight, so maybe it's all just fear of the unknown.

What's harder to learn as an adult: sign language or braille?  That might be the deciding factor.

Unless your brother is DareDevil  or something,  this is a no brainer.
