HD650 vs HD600 vs K702 vs....triple fi 10?

I'm about to take the plunge on a new pair of headphones.  It's between the HD650, HD600, and K702.

Current set up is Zero AMP/DAC 09 version and a Astro A40 mixamp (for gaming).

Looking at these three headphones for music purposes so I'd be running them through the Zero.  I've been listening to my triple fi 10's at work a lot and just adore the sound of them.  I get most of the bass of my Denon D2000's but only where its supposed to be, whereas the D2000's seem to give bass when there shouldn't be any sometimes.  But i really love the highs of the triple fi's.  Full of detail but not harsh at all.  Trance in particular, and especially with female vocals, is just incredible from the triple fi.

That sort of sound signature is what i'm looking for in these phones. This is going to be for home use, as I don't like having the IEM's in my head all day.  I don't intend to get rid of the Denons, but the slightly too "always on" lower end and the somewhat harsh highs get on my nerves after awhile. I'm going to be using the Zero amp for at least the next year or so, though i'm sure reading this place enough will convince me to upgrade in the future.  Would any of these headphones be an upgrade to the triple fi in sound, and which would be in a similar ballpark in terms of sonic signature, while still being good for Rock bands such as Porcupine Tree and Opeth?

One last note...comfort is an issue.  I have the Sennheiser PC350 headset and i have a difficult time finding a good fit because the angle of the ear pad tends to raise the bottom of the ear cup off of my head slightly.  I can fix this by extending the headband, but then it sits unnaturally low on my head.  Is this an issue that I would likely face on the 650/600 as well?  On the denons I generally use them at the smallest setting, and find they fit just about right.

HD650.  Never listened to HD600, and don't need to.  By the way, IEM cannot even come close to properly amped HD650.  Its sex for your ears.

I'd go for the HD-650 if you like trance. It's darker and smoother than the HD-600, but the HD-600 is more natural overall. If you want to enjoy vocals, skip the K-701/2. I find an unnatural tinge in the vocals with that headphone; I was never able to enjoy them. I haven't heard those IEMs, so I can't offer a comparison.

Yup, the 650s.

I can only speak for the HD650's and the HD600's, but:

If money is of no concern to you then I would go with the 650's over the 600's because they were much nicer.  I am new to the forum so please excuse my lack of proper description, but the 650's presented a better representation of stringed instruments  and vocals, as well as had a better overall tone with more bass heavy songs (neither phone had bass that was overly dominant, but better accuracy existed with the 650's).

But, if you are concerned about money, I would say that the overall reward of buying the 650's over the 600's is not worth over $100 price difference.  The guy in the store agreed with me and told me that overall the 600's have been the most consistently sold item out of their Sennheiser headphone collection (HD595, HD600, HD650 & the magnificent HD800).  I know salespersons aren't exactly trustworthy, but he was trying to guide me toward a less expensive headphone.

On a different note, the 650's were a little bit more comfortable, and the 600's felt like they were ready to fall off of my head, but that could have been operator error.

I would recommend the HD650's because of more bass which would be required for the Genres you listen.

I would stay far from the AKG as they are very detailed and natural sounding for your genres, and would require proper amping.

i recently got my hd 650s, and these are really good headphones. i'm coming off the beyer dt 880 and dt 990 600 ohms, which are amazing phones in their own right, but the hd 650 does some things better :)

great headphones! congrats on your decision :)

Not sure I understand this post. If the 650 is "much nicer" than the 600, and "better accuracy existed with the 650's", how can they not be worth another $100, which after all is nothing compared to long term satisfaction?

Though the 650's and 600's are quite different in price, I was pleasantly surprised to find them sonic contenders and that though similar, they have important sonic differences.  I've claimed I prefer one over the other, only to switch my preference.  I've settled with equally liking them both, a whole LOT.  From your description of the triple-fi's, I'd not at all rule out the HD600's.

Ascari, the loose fit of the HD600's you tried is odd.  Like my HD650's, my HD600's offer the same familiar HD6x0 grip that some may find off-putting.  That snug fit vs one where the headphone is falling off your head is bound to affect the sound.

I have an HD600, K701 and TF10 so perhaps I can offer some insight.

I would class the TF10 as fast, bass-heavy with slightly rolled-of treble (but not nearly as bad as many phones). It offers a full-bodied sound and copes well with complex music. My only gripes are that small bit of missing treble and it does feel as though certain frequencies cause a resonance that occasionaly spoils the music.

If you like the TF10 sound sig, stay away from the K702/1, they are excellent phones, but sound very different from the TF10. The HD600/650 are very close in sound sig to the TF10s, with slightly rolled-of treble and that full-bodied sound, BUT you will find them much slower than the TF10s. The HDs lose bass slam compared to the TF10s and you may find that fast or rythmical music starts to sound boring (I know I do). However, the HDs do an excellent job of smoothing out every bit of harshness from a vocal performance.

I'm happy to own both of them :)
