I second Mr. Monkey.  The 11L fits your budget and sounds and looks better than the Audioengine A5.

Can I get some lovin for the Gen's? Sheesh...built like tank, great sounding, in budget..

I like the look of the gen's but the quad 11 looks awesome and a half.  if i cant find any cheaper ones than i am finding (around $700) then i will problaby get the gens.

Keep an eye out on AudioGon or contact user: Lanemart there.  He's a Quad dealer in New England and sells new/demo models often.  His 12L Actives go for $650 so I'd assume his 11L would go for $500-$550.

 

The finish in person is truly furniture grade, remind me of the Vienna Acoustic Mozarts I had, and the sound is delicious.
